Despite the miserable weather the hall was full for a meeting to find out what people thought about the proposals from Orchard Developments to build 25 houses on Maybush Orchard, Cot Lane, Chidham. Residents strongly opposed development of the Orchard. There was a variety of views expressed, concerns about the biodiversity impact, strain on local infrastructure, dismay at the impact of Government and District Council policy, and disbelief that the planning system would not necessarily protect such a beautiful and important habitat that is within the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There was overwhelming support for the formation of a group to oppose the development with people equally prepared to fund professional advice. Residents were urged to engage with their local District Councillors and write to their MP. Residents were also encouraged to record their knowledge and sightings of the fauna and flora of the orchard and the surrounding area. You can also sign the e Petition
